A drive to Naples, with a brief orientation tour of city, and continuation to Pompeii. Take a moment to visit an ancient cameo and coral factory in Torre del Greco before arriving in Pompeii. We will have lunch in a traditional local restaurant before beginning our visit of the excavations of the tragic Roman city. In many experts opinion Pompeii is the most important archeological site anywhere. Almost every other ancient urban site is simply the remains of a ghost town, long ago deserted by its citizens who carried away with them everything of value. Prior to the eruption of Vesuvius, Pompeii was a thriving city. Then it was buried with so little warning in 79 A.D. that Pompeii was literally frozen in time. Your tours will allow you a glimpse of you can see around the streets, villas, temples, theaters, baths, shops, and forum of Pompeii. This is true archaeological gem so enjoy every minute of it. |
